Alot of people know about the war or at least have heard about it but only fifty percent of people know why it started. This war was Vietnam version of our Civil war. North Vietnam fell to communism and they wanted the south to do the same. The United States defended the south because we didn't want the country to lose their independence to the north. Pretty shortly after a thirty year war broke out and the United States was caught in the middle of a war that wasn't ours. The south held defense as the north held offense and tried to break the ranks of the south troops. In order to do so the north made a hidden trail through Cambodia called the Ho Chi Minh trail. They would use these trail to sneek supplies to their troops on the other side of the border. When the United States heard of this they started heavily bombing the area to expose the trail. After a long time people started getting concerned the the United States was in over our head and wanted the U.S. to pull out of the war. When we did the south held their freedom for two years before falling to the north. This is the only war that the United Stated has lost.
